At Crabtree Valley Dental in Raleigh, we are proud to provide Dental Bridges to patients who may be missing one or several teeth. Learn more about bridges below.
What are dental bridges?
If you have lost teeth due to an accident or decay, bridges are an effective way to redistribute biting pressure, while also providing significant cosmetic benefits. To put it simply, bridges “bridge” the gaps in your teeth together. Dental bridges are created using two crowns and a fake tooth in the middle. The crowns anchor the bridge to the surrounding teeth (called abutment teeth) and secure the fake tooth inside the gap.
Are dental bridges necessary?
Yes. When missing teeth are not replaced, teeth surrounding the gap tend to shift and become more prone to decay and gum disease. For this reason, replacing those teeth with bridges helps your overall oral health in the long term.
What can I expect from a dental bridge procedure at Crabtree Valley Dental?
If you’re getting a bridge procedure done at Crabtree Valley Dental, the first thing to know is that you’re in very good hands! Our dental bridge process is done over two visits. In the first appointment, you will be anesthetized to ensure your experience is comfortable. Then, we will prepare the two teeth adjacent to the missing tooth for crowns. We will take an impression to send to the lab and have you all set with a temporary bridge for 2-3 weeks while the permanent bridge is prepared.
On your second visit, we will remove the temporary bridge and replace it with the permanent bridge. Before we cement the bridge in place, we will make sure it is at its most optimal fit, feel, function, and esthetics.
